What is IIT JAM?

To establish a prominent presence in the domains of science, technology, engineering, and research, the Indian Institutes of Technology administer a computer-based examination known as IIT JAM.

This test, conducted on a rotational basis, serves as a gateway for numerous graduates aspiring to secure admission into the prestigious IISc Bangalore and various IITs. Since its inception in 2004, the exam evaluates candidates’ proficiency in their chosen subjects, encompassing Biotechnology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, and Physics.

Successful performance in the IIT JAM opens avenues for candidates to pursue Integrated PhD programs at IISc and Master of Science (MSc), MSc-PhD, and similar programs at IITs. The examination comprises 60 questions carrying a total of 100 marks and must be completed within a time frame of 3 hours.

IIT JAM Eligibility Criteria

Chemistry: Chemistry topics include Bohr’s theory, Schrödinger wave equation, complex formation, chemical thermodynamics, electrochemistry, resonance, hydrocarbons, alcohols, phenols, organic reactions, and amino acids.

Biotechnology: Biotechnology topics include general biology, basic biotechnology, molecular biology, biochemistry and physiology, cell biology, and microbiology.

Mathematics: Mathematics topics cover sets, relations and functions, logarithms, complex numbers, linear and quadratic equations, three-dimensional geometry, Boolean algebra, differentiation, circles, trigonometry, and exponential and logarithmic series.

Physics: Mathematics covers mathematical methods, oscillation, waves and optics, mechanics, electricity and magnetism, modern physics, kinetic theory, thermodynamics, solid-state physics, and devices and electronics.

Geology: Geology topics include geomorphology, structural geology, planet Earth, paleontology, mineralogy, stratigraphy, petrology, applied geology, and economic geology.

Mathematical Statistics: Mathematics covers sequences and series, integral calculus, matrices and determinants, probability, univariate and multivariate distributions, limit theorems, estimation, hypothesis testing, and sampling distribution.

  • Upon completing the form, applicants must upload scanned copies of their photograph and signature.

IIT JAM 2024 Counseling

The counseling for IIT JAM 2024 will start in May 2024, and it will be conducted online. Selection of candidates will be based on their rank in the IIT JAM 2024 exam. The counseling process will consist of multiple rounds, with seats being allocated depending on availability after each round.

Once a seat is allotted, applicants will need to pay the required fee online to confirm their acceptance. It is important for candidates to bring their original documents to the designated center for the verification process.

IIT JAM 2024 Result

The results for IIT JAM 2024 will be announced in the third week of March 2024. Candidates will be assigned an All India Rank (AIR) based on their performance in the qualifying exam. The result will be accessible online.

The result will be presented as a rank cum merit list, indicating the qualifying status of candidates. Separate merit lists will be published for each test paper. Only those candidates whose names appear in the merit list will be considered eligible for admission.

IIT JAM Admit Card
